SAIC Fostering Next-Gen Autonomous Robots
SAIC Inc. is providing funding, equipment and supplies to support members of Duke’s Robotics Club. Duke is partnering with Georgia Tech’s Sting Racing team to participate in the DARPA Urban Challenge. The Urban Challenge tests the ability of competing autonomous robots to drive 60 miles in an urban setting in six hours or less. The vehicles must obey the rules of the road and safely interact with other robot vehicles and other cars driven by people on the course. The competition is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2007. Duke students are developing a stereo vision and radar systems for the Sting Racing vehicle.
