ECE Seminar: Quantum Computing, from Hardware to Software

There are many challenges facing the field of quantum computing, from engineering large coherent quantum systems (building better hardware), to designing fast quantum algorithms (creating better software). On the hardware front, I will discuss protocols to accurately characterize errors in quantum systems under experimentally realistic assumptions. These protocols are critical for calibrating quantum computing devices. On the software front, I will discuss a quantum algorithm for detecting paths, and show that it can be thought of as an algorithmic primitive for solving a range of important problems.
